Diploma in Beauty Specialist

The ITEC Diploma for Beauty Specialists provides a thorough understanding and skills in Facial treatments (with the omission of electricals) manicure/pedicure, make up and waxing for a Beauty Specialist requiring a high level qualification in beauty.

Ideal for those seeking employment in Salons, Self employed, Health farms, Spas and Cruise Liners.

The curriculum includes studies in:

Skincare & Eye Treatments

You will study all the structures being worked on when doing a facial. You will be able to recognise skin diseases, disorders and conditions, and know when to treat, how to treat and when not to treat. You will learn:

  • Cleansing the eyes
  • Cleansing the lips
  • Cleansing the face, neck and decollote
  • Skin analysis
  • Methods of warming the face
  • Comodone extractions
  • Eyebrow and eyelash tinting
  • Eyebrow shaping
  • Massage
  • Mask
  • Tone and moisturise

You will understand the products that you are using and the effect of the ingredients on the skin.


Make up

Professional make up application for different occasions. Cosmetology of the ingredients used. Make up for;

  • Day
  • Evening
  • Mature skin
  • Bridal
  • corrective

Manicure & Pedicure

Be able to give a manicure and pedicure to enhance the appearance of the hands and feet. Study of all underlying structure being worked on. Diseases, disorders and conditions and how to treat, with special treatments that may be applied to the hands and feet. Knowledge of the ingredients and their effects on different skin and nail types.


The application of hot wax and/or warm wax on the following areas;

  • Eyebrows
  • Upper lip
  • Chin
  • Sides of face
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Underarms
  • Bikini line

Safety precautions when using electrical equipment is also included in this unit.


Professional Conduct & Business Awareness

This is a mandatory unit and is given free to all new students taking an ITEC diploma. It includes;

  • Professionalism
  • Ethics
  • First aid in the salon
  • Sterilization and hygiene in the salon
  • How to carry out basic electrical checks in the salon
  • Client communication
  • Basic accounting system
  • Stock control
  • Principles of selling

Recommended prior learning

It is recommended that candidates should have achieved a level of education equivalent to five GCSEs at grades A*-C prior to commencing the ITEC Level 2 Diploma for Beauty
Specialists. However, exemptions may be made for adult returners with experience of the work place.


Applications are treated on a first come, first served basis and are subject to availability. Course applications close on the 2nd of September.

All materials and equipment is provided for by the centre and all you need to buy are 2 texts book, Fact File by Susan Cressy and The Art and Science of Beauty Therapy, a polo shirt from the centre, black trousers and black closed shoes and some makeup.
