Diploma in Holistic Massage


Level 3 (International) Level 4 (National)

The foundation course for all complementary therapy courses. The course provides students with a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology of the body so that they have a complete knowledge of the structure and functions of each area on which they are working.


The course includes holistic massage incorporating the classical movements treating the whole body, enabling the student to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a Massage Therapist.

This award qualifies graduates to operate their own clinic or home visiting practice. Graduates can also gain employment in Salons, Health Club, Health Farms, Spas and Liners and various aspects of the Care Industry.

The curriculum includes studies in:

Anatomy & Physiology

You will study all the structures being worked on when giving a massage. You will study all the major and minor systems so as to give you a better understanding of how the body works and some common diseases and disorders that effect the body. In brief, you will learn about the following systems;

  • The skeletal system
  • The muscular system
  • The skin
  • The cell and tissues
  • The circulatory system
  • The lymphatic system
  • The neurological system
  • The endocrine system
  • The respiratory system
  • The digestive system
  • The urinary system
  • The reproductive system

Holistic Massage

This part of the course deals with the history of massage, contra-indications, the classical massage movements and their physiological and psychological. You will also learn how to conduct a consultation and how to gain consent and all about client care. This section will teach you how to be a professional in your line of work and be able to safely give a full body massage.

Professional Conduct & Business Awareness

This is a mandatory unit and is given free to all new students taking an ITEC diploma. It includes;

  • Professionalism
  • Ethics
  • First aid in the salon
  • Sterilization and hygiene in the salon
  • How to carry out basic electrical checks in the salon
  • Client communication
  • Basic accounting system
  • Stock control
  • Principles of selling


Recommended prior learning

It is recommended that candidates should have achieved a level of education equivalent to five GCSEs at grades A*-C prior to commencing the ITEC Level 3 for Holistic Massage.

However, exemptions may be made for adult returners with experience of the work place.


Applications are on a first come first served basis and are subject to availability. Course applications close on the 2nd of September.

All materials and equipment is provided for by the center and all you need to are 2 text books, An Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology and An Introduction to Massage, (both by Louise Tucker), a polo shirt from the centre, white trousers and white closed shoes.
